What is spinology?

Spinology is a non-medical alternative practice system that aims to conserve the relationship between the spinal bones (vertebrae), maintaining normal pressure and ensuring that there is no interference with the central nervous system. Hence, spinology is concerned with the spinal column, which is made up of individual vertebrae which protects the spinal cord and nerves, and hence the rest of the body’s neurological functions. A spinologist would argue that a regular spine check-up should be as important as having regular dental check-ups.

Why would you seek spinology treatment?

When a vertebrae is misaligned (slipped disc) the surrounding pressure is misaligned and pain or discomfort can result, however, sometimes no pain is felt. These misalignments are known as ‘spinal obtrusions’. These can be caused by many everyday activities, or a fall or sudden jolt. A spinologist would try to restore the relationship between the vertebrae so that the central nervous system is no longer being interfered with. It is important to note that if you do experience back pain that you seek a medical opinion before seeking non-medical treatment.

What does spinology involve?

Unlike other forms of physical therapy, such as chiropractic treatments or osteopathy, spinology does not involve the physical manipulation of spinal bones, but on the surrounding muscle fibres in the back. Spinologists do no diagnose specific symptoms, but help the body to heal itself by focusing on the misalignments in the spine by gently applying force to the relevant muscles. It is hoped that with regular treatments, any ‘spinal obtrusions’ are relieved and health is restored to the spine and central nervous system.
