Retinitis pigmentosa is considered a serious eye condition and is the most common hereditary degenerative retinal condition. Progression causes decreased vision due to the death of photoreceptors, the retina cells and it can end up causing blindness. Its first symptoms are lack of capacity to adapt to the dark (nocturnal blindness) and a decreased visual field, causing tunnel vision. As the disease progresses, symptoms worsen, so it is important to know how the disease developed in close relatives to understand how it will affect the patient. Although there is currently no specific treatment for this disease, consumption of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients may help slow its evolution. In addition, vision therapy is advised; exercises monitored by an ophthalmologist to improve the visual conditions of the patient.
