Morbid obesity is also known as severe obesity or class III obesity. People are considered morbidly obese when their body mass index is above 40, or even 35 if the patient has a disease or severe disability as a result of being overweight. In many countries it is a public health problem due to the new eating habits of the society.
Morbid obesity can be treated with a low calorie diet and regular exercise. In extreme cases patients can have bariatric surgery.
