What is cryo-sclerotherapy?
Cryo-sclerotherapy is a minimally-invasive treatment or procedure to eliminate body fat by applying cold. A plate-shaped device is applied to the skin, cooling the adipocytes or fat cells and eliminating them through lipolysis, which breaks down their chemical bonds. This is a less invasive treatment than liposuction and carries fewer risks.
This is a comfortable treatment, as no anaesthetic or pain medication is required, and you can read or even sleep during the procedure.
Why is it performed?
Cryo-sclerotherapy is performed for people who wish to reduce their body fat and achieve visible and natural results without having to undergo an invasive procedure. It is especially recommended for people who are not obese but who have fat in some areas of the body which is difficult to eliminate through diet and exercise alone. It is important to remember that this procedure is not performed to treat obesity, nor is it an alternative to liposuction per se, although it does significantly reduce localised fat.
What does it involve?
Fat cells are naturally more vulnerable to the effect of cold than other adjacent tissues, so when cold is applied, only the adipocytes are affected. So, during the procedure, an external applicator (non-invasive) provides controlled cooling to the areas with accumulated fat, thus eliminating fat cells naturally and painlessly.
Applying cold to the adipocytes speeds up the natural process of cell death. The fat cells in the treated area are then eliminated naturally and permanently by other cells (macrophages), resulting in the gradual thinning of the fat layer.
The treatment is performed at the clinic and usually takes around an hour, depending on the area to be treated and the individual’s needs, which will be assessed by the specialist.
The reduction in fat starts to become noticeable after around 15 days, and the maximum reduction in fat thickness will occur during the following 2 to 4 months. A fat thickness reduction of approximately 5 to 7 mm is achieved in each session.
How to prepare for it
No special preparation is necessary for Cryo-sclerotherapy, since it is a non-invasive, painless treatment.
Post-treatment care
No specific care is required after treatment, so you can resume your normal activity immediately afterwards, including work and sport.
