Attachment can be described as the very deep connection made between a child and their caregiver and it is usually established in the early years of their life. For children, having a stable attachment in these early developmental years is said to be crucial for healthy physical, social and emotional development. Attachment issues describe a set of behaviours that can arise from certain situations, such as if a child loses their primary carer or has suffered from emotional neglect in their early years. Behaviours that can indicate attachment issues include clinginess or being demanding, control problems, a lack of eye contact, changes in eating habits or poor peer relationships.
